Inked Pine Planks

Here's how I created the wood effect background used on the cards in my previous post.

I  embossed white card stock using the S.U pine planks embossing folder.
Stampin' Up's  old style ink pads work best for this technique as the new foam pads are quite soft and deposit too much ink on the card stock. If you intend to try this with the new foam pads use very, very light strokes.
Starting with the lightest colour , tilt the ink pad on it's end and stroke the edge of the ink pad over the embossing.

At this stage it doesn't matter if the ink goes on the flat areas of the card too.

I used Bashful Blue ink  for my first layer.

Then  I added Night of Navy very lightly trying to keep it on the raised areas only.

There was still a little too much white showing, so
with a sponge dauber and  a little Smokey Slate ink.

I gently filled in some of the white areas with the Smokey Slate.

In the photo below,  I tried
other colour combinations.  using blues with lilacs.
Blue with grey and turquoise.
Blues and browns also work well together.

On the left of this photo you can see a sample where I have changed it up a little. Instead of inking the embossed side.  I inked the de bossed side of the card .
This leaves the indented lines white.
I am not sure which side I like best.
