About a year ago and for health reasons we started the ketogenic diet which means I have no use for a toast rack.
At the time I was painting and needed somewhere to put my papers to dry. So I started popping wet work into the toast rack to dry. It worked well but the painting phase only lasted a few days and without even realizing what I was doing, I had started using the toast rack for the embossing folders and wallets of dies I was using at the time.
A year later I am still using it for the die wallets and embossing folders I am working with.
I no longer spend ages trying to find the die set or embossing folder I've been using because it's buried somewhere on my work bench.
It has made things so much easier for me. I know exactly where to find them now. So I thought I would share how I have re purposed everyday items for use in my craft room.
As you can see it holds quite a few items. After a completing a few projects I usually have a good tidy up and put away all the items I know I won't be using again for a while.
Another everyday household item that has become really useful in my craft room is my old letter rack. With three adults in the house this just wasn't big enough for all our mail.
But it's just the right size to hold all the plates for my Bigshot and with room to spare for my Stamparatus when I need a bit more space on my desk.
next useful storage item for tools is a remote control holder or two, or in my case three.
I bought two cream holders at £1.99 each and then found two were not enough. Unfortunately when I went get back to get another, they had sold out.
However they did have some faux leather ones that match my punch drawers.
Okay, so my storage ideas may not be coordinated, but they're inexpensive and maybe stuff you already own. Perfect if you're not worried about everything matching.
I would dearly love to have a designer craft room where everything is coordinated, but the cost would be astronomical and I would rather spend my hard earned cash on quality tools to create with than expensive storage.
Who remembers these things.?
Yes... they are floppy disc holders. I don't suppose many of you have any of these anymore. But if you do they make excellent little carry trays for small items.
All you need to do is take them apart and put them back together the wrong way round.
I use them to store my alcohol inks and spritzer bottles in.
It's an ideal way of carrying all my alcohol inks and tool without dropping them.
I was in Lidls last week and spotted these make up racks, They are really good quality racks designed for make up. I don't wear much make up but I thought they would be great for my craft room. So I bought three of them.
Sponge daubers in the front row, tubes of glitter and brads in the other square holes and somewhere for my post it notes, spray bottles and shimmer paints.
Great ideas Laura x
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra, I have been toying with the idea of posting this post for a week or two.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure it was a post that would be received well or not.
